Heath Bar Trifle

This was one of my favorite desserts we made at Christmas when I was little! These were the days before you could buy crumbled Heath bar toffee bits, so we’d put Heath bars in a big ziplock bag and I’d crush them with a hammer on the kitchen floor! This trifle is always a bit hit and I even won a dessert contest at Kendall’s office competition back in 2013. It is also so incredibly easy to make. You can use a large glass bowl but I prefer a trifle dish to really show off the layers. It takes up a lot of room in the fridge, but totally worth it! I now make this dessert for Thanksgiving dinner and by the next day, it is always completely gone. To say it is a crowd favorite is an understatement.

Ingredients:

(For 9”/1 Gallon Trifle Bowl)

  • 1 box of brownie mix (I highly recommend Ghirardelli!) made chewy according to directions (and cooled)

(The amount of ingredients really depends on the size of your trifle dish or bowl! My original trifle dish was one of these versatile cake stands tuned upside down, and I used almost 2 full boxes of brownies and pudding because there were 3 layers. I recently purchased a 1 gallon trifle dish and it used the measurements listed above in two layers. You will likely have leftovers of some ingredients but I highly recommend ensuring that you have enough of each your first time making it until you know about how much your dish holds!)

Directions:

1. Lightly crumble the brownie and layer across bottom of trifle dish.
2. Add a layer of pudding. Then add a layer of cool whip. Top with Heath bar bits.
3. Repeat for another layer.* Cover with plastic wrap and allow to set up for at least 3 hours before serving. Keep refrigerated.

*Depending on the shape of your dish, you may want to do 2 or 3 layers. My upsdie down cake stand is very deep so I do 3, but if I’m using my new trifle bowl I typically do 2 thicker layers.
