Palms & Pineapples Dining Room

Palms and Pineapples

Glassware has become one of my favorite things to thrift/pick after I bought some green depression glass at a yard sale last year. I hit a jackpot this spring when I found several more green and some cobalt blue pieces, all for $1 each! I didn't have any intentions of actually displaying those colors together but when I pulled out my summer placemats and pineapple decor for the dining room, I got an idea.

I had fallen in love with the placemats at Target last year and was patient enough to wait for them to go on clearance. Since I couldn't decide between palm print or the blue with a pineapple I took a risk and got three of each to mix and match. I love palm prints, I love blue, and I love pineapples...so why not?!

I know these brass pineapples have been a trendy thing in the last year or so, but mine is actually vintage (I also love to collect vintage brass)! If you follow along with my Instagram stories, you may remember me falling in love with these palm taper candle holders from Opalhouse for Target. I just couldn't resist getting those to go with my brass pineapple.

I had my placemats and brass candleholders ready to go with the green vases when remembered I had the blue as well and I thought it would be different to display them all together for a blue and green tropical theme. Once I got the table set I added the Tommy Bahama palm print pillows we have for our patio chairs (covers from Etsy, pillow forms from Jo-Ann Stores). We don't typically have pillows in the dining room chairs but these matched so well and now that we've been using them in here, they actually make the chairs much more comfy!

The dishes are my infamous Dollar Tree plates (seriously, how versatile are they?!) and the set of gold chargers (from Homegood's) are my go-to since they match everything. Disposable bamboo cutlery from Amazon, left over from my birthday party last year, help keep the table more casual and beach-y. The gold rimmed drinking glasses are my great grandparents' 50th Anniversary glasses. Those are really special to me and they also go with everything so you'll see them in lots of tablescapes I've styled!

While the rug isn't exactly palm print, if you know me you know I love ferns as well. I have a thing for all tropical plants! This is an outdoor rug from Target that I got last year but I have only used it inside. I'm not ready to invest a lot in a dining room rug right now and this one was extremely affordable (they put their rugs on sale often) while being super easy to clean (like "take a water hose to it" easy to clean).

Of course I jazzed up my bar cart to theme as well. I pulled out my wooden pineapple bowl for chocolates. I knew all the random pineapple things I have collected would come in handy one day! Sidenote: the Lindt chocolates did not last long after these photos were taken.

Since I have so many vases in here and can't realistically keep them all full of fresh flowers, I filled a couple with water and used floating candles. The flowers I did use for this shoot I kept simple and inexpensive as this set up is a day-to-day design in our home rather than for an event or special occasion. If I were styling a party with this theme, I'd use more greenery and ferns and add additional blooms to make the arrangements a bit more lush.

I am kind of obsessed with the green pedestal vase that has the Greek print around the bottom. There's just something about it when the sun is shining through and showing off that print that I just can't get enough of!

Until I have a China cabinet (one day!) I use a small cabinet for dining room storage and I filled the shelves with more random glassware and candles. I absolutely love how the candlelight reflects inside the white cabinet in the evenings!

Summer Celebration

I say it all the time but the dining room is my favorite room in our house. It gets the best natural light of any of the rooms and the Carolina blue walls with white wainscoting reflect the sunlight beautifully, especially during golden hour. Add in rich blues and greens with brassy details and candlelight, and it's a summer dream! I may not live at the beach but having supper in here as the sun goes down sure is relaxing and puts me in the best mood!
